“I Love Arts: Ms. America 2017 Oksana Vovk is a special guest at the Newport Beach Sculpture Exhibition, Phase III in her home town of Newport Beach”

Newport Beach, Orange County, CA, 2017-Nov-03 — /EPR ENTERTAINMENT NEWS/ — Ms. America 2017 Oksana Vovk attended Newport Beach Sculpture in Civic Center Park Exhibition Phase III near Newport Beach City Hall on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

“Flight” a sculpture by Steven Reiman at the Newport Beach Sculpture Exhibition, Phase III

“This was a long-awaited event for all Newport Beach residents”, Vovk said shortly after the opening ceremony took place in the Community Room and City Hall open session chambers, where everyone in attendance had a chance to learn more about the amazing new art coming to the Civic Park. “Mayor Muldoon is doing such a great job in bringing arts to the City and meeting the artists in person during and after the ceremony was just very special. Nine new sculptures will decorate the Civic Park and give our City a great makeover”.

Ms. America 2017 Oksana Vovk with artist Steven Reiman at the Newport Beach Sculpture Exhibition, Phase III

Vovk won Ms. America 2017 title with her two-fold platform to fight autism and promote organic living. She is determined to make a difference during her year as Ms. America 2017 by positively influencing her community and getting more women involved in community service and helping others.

“My new favorite sculpture was made by California artist Steven Reiman and is called “Flight”, Vovk continued. “I arrived at the ceremony early and had a chance to walk around the park and look at each sculpture up close, and “Flight” just took my breath away. Such a powerful statement embodied in this piece of art made of stainless steel and bronze. According to Mr. Reiman, the symbolic bird soaring through a ring of the sun represents a future of wonder with the random letters that cover its form questioning the human experience and how we impact our future. I met with Mr. Reiman and his lovely wife Ruth right after the ceremony and I was truly touched by his kindness and great passion with which he spoke about his creation. I Love Arts and now I have a new favorite sculpture in my city created by an amazing artist”, Vovk said.

Grammy Winner Coolio & WWE legend Virgil join Cherie DeVille for the 2020 run for president

Los Angeles, CA, Sep-7-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — Sporting a doctorate on her resume, a well-spoken, opinionated candidate has emerged in the 2020 run for president. With Donald Trump having opened the door to public figures attaining the highest office, DeVille has announced her intention to run for President. She’s enlisted Coolio to serve as Vice-President due to his rise from poverty to a gangster’s paradise, and having toured every state in this land, and dozens of countries throughout the world speaking to people along the way – together they know how to fix America.

DeVille announces her presidential bid during a 7+ minute press conference which introduces her team as she recounts her views for change. Coolio is introduced as the presidential hopeful’s running mate and is a strong proponent for universal healthcare, hoping to roll out CoolioCare to the masses.
Chere DeVille speaks eloquently on the broken promises of the current administration and goes so far as to touch on the travel ban, healthcare as well as the disastrous situation that Trump has left the world in with the United State’s withdrawal from the Paris Accord.

International models @Khloe and @MissKennedyS bring the millennial vote along with substantial experience from travelling the world and speaking to the people. Summers, is also a third year med student who has very real concepts on how to improve the healthcare system and will work closely with the Vice President on CoolioCare. Canadian born Khloe Terae hopes to cozy up with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in her role as head of Foreign Relations.

Former WWE legend Virgil is the man behind the woman. The former bodyguard for the Million Dollar Man will reprise his role on a much grander scale. Virgil has been pegged with being the personal bodyguard for the Presidential hopeful, along with being head of security. Having broken breadsticks at Olive Garden with Donald Trump, Virgil has keen insight in the current administration, and can help transition when Cherie DeVille captures the White House.

Blind Children at Wuhan City School in a rock band established by teacher Zhang Long

Beijing, China, Jul-19-2017 — /EuropaWire/ — Wuhan School for The Blind is the only school of its kind in Hubei province, central China. Not only does it cater to pupils who face enormous challenges because of their disabilities, but it is also proud to have a star teacher who has given new hope to the pupils.

China, with its huge population, has a large number of blind people. More than 5.5 million people are registered blind, among them, some 120,000 children. Though there are more than 50 special schools in major cities catering to the needs of these individuals, the task is never easy. Special facilities and teacher training is hard to come by and the children often feel alienated from society and lack ambition.

Zhang Long, born in 1975, volunteered to teach at Wuhan City School for the Blind in 2011. Though she had no experience teaching children with visual impairment, after seeing the difficulties faced by pupils there, she decided to change the course of her life and accept the challenge of making a difference to their future.

It wasn’t long before the gravity of the situation sunk in. As a music teacher she discovered many pupils at the school of 150 lacked the motivation to even turn up to class, believing their only career option would be to become a massage therapist, a common occupation for blind people in China.

Persevering, Zhang Long established a school radio station, a rock band for the most talented children, and invited performances from other schools. Eventually, the children responded to this new approach revealing both passion for music and hidden talent. One student, Gan Wenjun, proved gifted at piano, for which he won several national awards and even played with famous pianist Richard Clayderman in concert.

Among other successes, Zhang Long was awarded titles such as “Most Admirable Teacher in Wuhan” and a national honor “The Most Beautiful Teacher of China”,“I’ve never treated them as blind children,” says Zhang of the pupils. “It doesn’t matter that those kids can’t see. They can use their own ways to express themselves. I’ve never lowered my standards for them because they are blind, because to me they are just children.” Her approach seems to have worked and now pupils harbor ambitions such as to become a teacher, a professional singer and even an astronaut.

Wuhan City School for the Blind holds the belief that blind children are perfectly capable of the same achievements as sighted kids, given the right guidance and a little courage. Since its establishment, it has helped over 500 children pursue their dreams and been a cradle of many rising stars in music, sports, teaching and other fields. It aims to keep making contribution to China’s endeavors in special education.

Robin Reardon releases a new novel about building a bridge between Christians and Pagans

Boston, Massachusetts, November 13, 2015 — /EPR ENTERTAINMENT NEWS/ — Robin Reardon’s seventh novel, Throwing Stones, explores what can happen when we make conclusions about others based on too little information, or on the wrong information. Whether we’re misunderstanding each others’ religions or each others’ sexual orientation, everyone benefits from learning the truth. And everyone benefits from forgiveness. The release date is Friday, November 13, 2015.

“All my books revolve around my motto,” says Reardon. “And that is, the only thing wrong with being gay is how some people treat you when they find out. Throwing Stones takes that philosophy into religious differences. Jesse Bryce, the main character, is gay, and he falls in love with a Pagan teen from ‘the village,’ just outside his town. But his family and the other townies fear the Pagans for reasons they aren’t sure about, themselves. Sound like any homophobic people we know?”

Writing in first person from the viewpoint of gay teens, Reardon’s style has an immediacy that brings readers right into the middle of the action. Her ability to speak directly from the mind of a gay teenage boy has been remarked upon by reviewers as uncanny and insightful.

In Throwing Stones, there is something drawing seventeen-year-old Jesse Bryce toward the community of Pagans who live in “the village,” just outside his rural Oklahoma town. Maybe it’s that he has a crush on Griffin Holyoke, a tall, dark-haired boy with a tree tattooed all up his back. Or maybe it’s that the Pagans accept Jesse for who he is, unlike his family—or his church, where he hears that being gay is a sin.

After a man from the village is murdered while trying to prevent an assault on a girl from the town, Jesse’s confusion at the town’s unsympathetic reaction inspires him to set a mission for himself: to build a bridge of acceptance between the town and the village. As Jesse defies his parents and continues to visit the village, he witnesses mysterious rituals that haunt him with their beauty and intensity. And he falls in love with one enigmatic, mercurial Pagan who opens his eyes to a whole new world.

Each of Readon’s books introduces readers to topics with which they are unlikely to be familiar. Examples include life inside an “ex-gay” camp (Thinking Straight), the finer points of dog behavior (A Question of Manhood), and the effects of synesthesia and living with an autistic child (Educating Simon). Throwing Stones will have readers investigating power animals, standing stones, scrying, and rock hounding; with this new book, Reardon does not disappoint.

BFI Southbank unveils new season dedicated to films exploring the UK capital.

LONDON, June 08, 2015 — /EPR ENTERTAINMENT NEWS/ — London On Film is a new major season of films at the BFI Southbank that will explore and celebrate the capital for four months from 1st July to 9th October. This is the first time the BFI has ever celebrated the city in which it is based, and will feature 200 films, a number of which have been unseen since they were first filmed, offering an extraordinary perspective of the city from the past 120 years. The BFI Southbank is the national home of cinema, featuring three state-of-the-art screens in Waterloo on the Southbank. For more on this vital cultural quarter, as well as the latest rates for London hotels, see LondonTown.com.

The London On Film season will include events such as a Soho Weekender (24-26 July) to celebrate the unique culture of Soho captured in films from 1896 – 1985 such as West End Jungle (1961), The Small World of Sammy Lee(1963) and Sunshine in Soho (1956). There will also be a discussion event Vanishing Soho on the state of Soho today in the light of current major changes for those who live and play there. Black experience is highlighted in a series of key films including Earl Cameron’s pioneering role as a black sailor in the crime drama Pool of London (1951) with fine use of locations around Tower Bridge, Poplar, Southwark and the City; Cameron also stars in the little seen The Heart Within (1957) another crime thriller set in London’s Docklands. Sapphire (Basil Dearden, 1959) is a film-maker’s response to the Notting Hill race riots wrapped up in a murder mystery while Babylon (Franco Rosso, 1981) shows the demoralisation of black youth, and offers an eerily prescient portrait of the situation in Deptford which would give rise to the Brixton Riots of the same year. A Bold Move: 79-year old champion bodybuilder competes against 40-, 50-, 60-year olds!

Amador County, CA, May 08, 2015 — /EPR ENTERTAINMENT NEWS/ — A career spanning nearly 50 years isn’t over yet for Amador County veteran bodybuilder and one of the original Mr. Venice Beach competitors, Arthur Peacock. Peacock, who is turning 80 this year, takes the stage with 40-, 50-, and 60-year olds this Saturday, May 9 at the Contra Costa Bodybuilding Championship, to be held in the Chabot College Performing Arts Theatre.

“There is no doubt that this is a career turning point for me. It’s what I’ve been training for my entire life, but especially the last three years. I’ll have 60-seconds to prove myself—my physique and my poses—with competitors between 40 and 69. That’s potentially almost 40 years younger than me.”

Peacock chose to compete in three classes for a couple of reasons—no 70s bracket existed, and he has every intention of continuing his legacy to inspire others who want to follow their bodybuilding dreams.

“I want people to see me and say, ‘I can do that. Look at that guy up there at 80.’ I want to inspire to the end; I’ve done it all my life. I’ve had world champions come up to me and say, ‘I remember when you stopped and spoke to me as a teenager, and now, 20 years later, I’m the number one guy. Thank you.’”

It was in 1965, as an already athletic young man in his early 30s, an avid swimmer, surfer cyclist, and hiker, that Peacock went as a spectator with his friends to his first bodybuilding competition. “I knew I wanted to do that—that I could do that.” And that he did, taking home his first trophy in the 1968 Mr. Venice Beach competition, which gave rise to a half-century career with more than 50 major titles earned.

LondonTown.com: All change at two of London’s top theatres

Two of London’s best theatres are currently undergoing a change at the top with Rufus Norris taking over the artistic directorship of the National Theatre in April 2015 and Matthew Warchus succeeding Kevin Spacey as Artistic Director of The Old Vic in autumn 2015.

Rufus Norris opens his debut season at the National with ‘Everyman’ starring Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave) running from 22nd April 2015 in the Olivier Theatre, anticipated as one of the best London events for spring.

Highlights of his inaugural season at the National Theatre include ‘Three Days in the Country’ by ‘Closer’ playwright Patrick Marber who directs his new adaptation in the Lyttelton Theatre from July. ‘Our Country’s Good’ by Timberlake Wertenbaker directed by Nadia Fall which opens in the Olivier Theatre in August. And ‘People, Places and Things’, a new play by Duncan Macmillan presented in a co-production with Headlong, directed by Jeremy Herrin, opening in the Dorfman Theatre in August.

Sally Cookson’s five star production of Charlotte Brontë’s masterpiece Jane Eyre, originally played at the Bristol Old Vic, comes to the National’s Lyttelton Theatre in September 2015, Anne-Marie Duff leads the cast in ‘Husbands and Sons’ beginning in October, and Polly Findlay directs Shakespeare’s comedy ‘As You Like It’ in the play’s first main stage production at the NT since 1980 in the Olivier Theatre in November. In the same month Rufus Norris directs ‘wonder.land’, a new musical by Damon Albarn and Moira Buffini inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

Other highlights at the National Theatre include Indhu Rubasingham, Artistic Director of the Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn, directing the UK premiere of Broadway hit ‘The Motherf**ker With the Hat’ from 10th June 2015 with a cast which includes Ricardo Chavira – Carlos Solis in US comedy-drama series, Desperate Housewives.

The National’s Temporary Theatre (previously The Shed) will host a tenth anniversary revival of Tim Crouch’s An Oak Tree from 23rd June which will see Crouch playing opposite a different actor each night, who has not seen a word of the play beforehand.

Ralph Fiennes, Timothy Spall and Rob Brydon will all take to the stage of The Old Vic for Matthew Warchus’ first season as Artistic Director of the famous London venue. The programme includes Ibsen’s ‘The Master Builder’ in a new adaptation by David Hare starring Ralph Fiennes due in 2016, and the world premiere of a new musical, ‘Groundhog Day’ reuniting the creative team of ‘Matilda the Musical’ with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.

The Old Vic new season will open on 1st September 2015 with ‘Future Conditional’, a new play by Tamsin Oglesby starring Rob Brydon and featuring a young cast of 23, directed by Matthew Warchus. There will be new commissions including a new dance thriller, ‘Jekyl and Hyde’, and the Christmas production will be a new stage adaptation of Dr Seuss’s The Lorax.

More good news for theatre lovers, Kenneth Branagh recently announced a new West End season of five plays, starring Dame Judi Dench, Lily James and himself in a year-long residency which begins on 17th October 2015 at the Garrick Theatre, with associates Rob Ashford and Olivier Award-winner Christopher Oram.

LondonTown.com: London Zoo’s lemurs get brilliant new home

In With The Lemurs, a new home for the primates, opens next month at London Zoo.

LONDON, March 23, 2015 — /EPR ENTERTAINMENT NEWS/ — London Zoo is getting a new attraction next month in the shape of a swanky new walk-through home for the zoo’s playful troop of 16 lemurs. In With The Lemurs is a fine new base for the lemurs at the zoo, nestled as it is in the heart of leafy Regent’s Park, kitted out with the best accessories and with a desirable NW1 postcode. The new lemur attraction opens on Saturday 28th March at London Zoo. For more information on the zoo and other attractions in the area, as well as the best deals for a hotel in London, see LondonTown.com.

The lemur pen will be home to 15 ring-tail lemurs and one black and white ruffed lemur. Designed by the zoo’s expert keepers and horticulturalists,  In With The Lemurs will take visitors on a journey through the Madagascan shrub forest where the evolutionarily unique primates will be leaping, climbing and lounging all around them. Renowned sun-worshippers, the lemurs love nothing more than an afternoon spent sunbathing. With this in mind the zoo’s dedicated architects have carefully mapped the path of the sunlight on the new exhibit to ensure their basking platforms are purposefully located to maximise lounging time.

With an uncertain future in the wild, lemurs face a daily struggle to survive due to extensive habitat loss, and over-hunting. In With The Lemurs will give the zoo’s visitors a glimpse of these threats in the exhibit’s replica timber mill, highlighting the devastating effect the industry has on the lemurs’ wild habitat. Ring-tail lemurs are classified as endangered on the IUCN red-list, as are black and white ruffed lemurs, which are also listed on international conservation charity ZSL’s EDGE of Existence programme, due to the threat to their survival and evolutionary distinctiveness. The new attraction will help ensure that London Zoo remains one of Europe’s leading zoos in the way it combines fascinating attractions with sympathetic environments, following recent transformations of the enclosures for lions, tigers and gorillas. For more information on London Zoo, including location, travel information, admission prices and opening times, see LondonTown.com, the best London website for tourists and visitors to the capital.

Leicester Square hosts exhibition of props and costumes from Disney’s Cinderella

LONDON, March 23, 2015 — /EPR ENTERTAINMENT NEWS/ — Leicester Square will be sparkling this spring when it hosts a pop-up exhibition dedicated to displaying costumes and props from Disney’s new live action film of the classic fairy tale, Cinderella.Cinderella: The Exhibition opens on March 21 st at Leicester Square Gardens and will run until 10 th April. The exhibition will be free of charge, but tickets will be required for entry. The Cinderella exhibition will feature 22 remarkable costumes and hundreds of original props offering people the opportunity to celebrate the film’s British roots first hand. Filmed in the UK, costumes were made by renowned British costume designer, Oscar-winning Sandy Powell, and the film was directed by fellow Kenneth Branagh. Powell’s costumes, as worn by the all-star cast including Lily James (Cinderella), Helena Bonham Carter (the Fairy Godmother), Cate Blanchett (Lady Tremaine) and Richard Madden (the Prince) will be proudly on display for all to see, housed within the recreated sets.

The exhibition is presented by Swarovski who provided Sandy Powell with over 1.7 million crystals for the spellbinding costumes to bring added sparkle to Cinderella’s magical world. At the heart of the exhibition will be Cinderella’s iconic slipper. The dazzling slipper, which plays such a pivotal role in the fairy tale, was hewn from solid Swarovski crystal and features 221 facets in a light-reflecting Crystal Blue Aurora Borealis coating. Powell worked closely with Swarovski technicians at the headquarters of the crystal house in Austria to create the magnificent slipper. “I’m looking forward to people being able to see the behind the scenes magic that went into the creation of Cinderella,” says Branagh. “Sandy Powell has allowed unlimited access to her creative process from the initial sketches to the final creations, including the most iconic costume of all – Cinderella’s incredibly beautiful blue ball gown.”

Free Civil War Exhibit, On the Way to War, Antaramian Gallery through March 1, 2015

Kenosha, WI, January 02, 2015 — /EPR ENTERTAINMENT NEWS/ — The Civil War Museum opened a new temporary exhibit, On the War to War, on display in the Antaramian Gallery through March 1, 2015.

Through the watercolor paintings of Civil War soldier John Gaddis, explore the universal experiences of soldiers on their way to war. Sense the excitement, boredom, anxiety, bonding and realization of what war and combat is really about.

The exhibit includes fourteen paintings on loan from the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. The primitive style watercolors were painted by John Gaddis, a soldier in the Civil War 12th Wisconsin Regiment, while he was in the field. Though they depict one soldier’s first-person view, the themes are universal to many soldiers across all wars and times.

Visitors can also climb inside a Sibley Tent like the kind soldiers slept in while training to become soldiers at Camp Randall. Plus, see a full-size black bear representing the 12th Wisconsin’s mascot, Bruin.

On the Way to War is free and open to the public. Nominal admission is required for the Civil War Museum’s main exhibit, The Fiery Trial, and 360-degree movie, Seeing the Elephant.

The Civil War Museum in Kenosha is a war museum like no other. It focuses on the Civil War from the perspective of the people in the six states of the upper Midwest: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Through the use of personal stories and narratives, the Museum also explores how the Civil War impacted the people on the Western home front before, during, and after the war by connecting the prewar causes to the postwar effects. The other two locations, the Kenosha Public Museum and the Dinosaur Discovery Museum are just a quick trolley car ride (adults, $1; kids ages 5-12, $0.50.) away. Free parking is available in the scenic lot on the lake shore. All three locations truly are a MUST SEE for everyone!
